Own This Look

Wearing: Vintage Irish cape and bustier, J. Crew blazer, Acne skinny pants, Cole Haan heels, Domestic Holding bag (her new brand)

First thing she consumes in the a.m.: Black coffee

Personal style: Modern staples mixed with eclectic accents like vintage pieces and original jewelry

When she knew she wanted to be a designer:  "About 3 years ago when I was working as an attorney in NYC, not sleeping, and running to the corner bodega during lunch to buy magazines with Gemma Redux placements.  I knew I wanted to be on the other side of that equation."

If she weren’t a designer, what she'd be: A line cook

What inspires her most: Stones. "I LOVE shopping for interesting stones and natural elements for the collection."

Designer she most admires:  Diane Von Furstenberg. "We (the CFDA Fashion Incubator designers) had a little sit-down with her in her studio, and she talked about this enviable path to where she is now, with plenty of setbacks along the way; but she focused on living her life in the meantime.  She’s amazing."

Her current “uniform:” Long-sleeve mini dress, tall vintage riding boots, cashmere cape and a fabulous necklace

Advice she’d give to anyone entering her field: "You need to go with your gut, listen to your heart, and make the collection that speaks to you."

How long it takes her to get ready each morning: 25 minutes. "The no-makeup thing saves a lot of time."

What she'd never be caught dead wearing: A baby doll dress

Worth the splurge: "Any shoe that you love and that fits amazingly."

Cheap thrill: "One-off french manicures.  I like to go in and get only red tips or some other random color on the ends."

Beauty must-haves: Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser and night cream

Signature scent: Verbena

Always in her bag: Chapstick and bobby pins for unruly curls

Music she grooves to: "Nothing beats The Roots when I’m designing."

Fave restaurants: Keens for cocktails in the Garment District, Daniel for a fancier cocktail, Minetta Tavern for a great burger, Freemans for a great seasonal meal, Blue Hill at Stone Barns for my favorite eating experience."

Daily read: New York Magazine

Top online shops: Net-a-Porter, Etsy, eBay vintage

Fave real-world shops: Uniqlo, Opening Ceremony, Barneys, Kirna Zabete

Book that's bedside now: On Food and Cooking

All-time fave travel destination: "Tanzania, where I went on my honeymoon and got a gorgeous hunk of tanzanite that’s on my fave cocktail ring."

How she's reducing her carbon footprint: "We make everything to order in New York, so we cut down a lot on transport emissions and costs and we have very little waste – everything gets used eventually."

Charities she supports: ASPCA, American Cancer Society, Dave Nee Foundation
