When she knew she wanted to be a designer: "When I moved to NYC 12 years ago, I realized I had avoided the evidence for too long. I was born to be a designer. I bought a sewing machine, got to it and worked hard!."

If she weren’t a designer, she'd be: "A writer, pianist, neuro-surgeon, therapist, police inspector, dog breeder."

Advice she'd give to anyone entering her field: "Be patient and passionate. It's hard to make it in fashion. You need determination. It's very taxing and requires a lot and lot of non-glamorous, good old-fashioned work."

Inspirations: Love and a good latte

Other designers she admires: Alber Elbaz, Nicolas Ghesquiere, YSL, Rei Kawakubo, Phoebe Philo

Favorite item in her spring collection: A silk chiffon jumpsuit. "It's perfect--soft, comfortable, chic."

Expert advice on looking your best: Do not follow trends from head to toe. "I personally love having a 'uniform,' like a good pair of dark denim jeans that you can accessorize."

Worth the splurge: Good shoes, good bag, cashmere and a classic trench coat

Cheap thrill: Indian bangles from 6th Avenue and 37th Street. "I have lots of them."

Beauty must-haves: bareMinerals concealer, Guerlain Terracotta, Lancome mascara

Signature scent: "I wore Jaisalmer by Comme des Garcons for many years. I'm in between right now. I love jasmine. I wear perfume to bed, and jasmine is very nice for that purpose."

Always in her bag: "My Kindle. I cannot live without it. I've been reading more than ever-- 2-3 books a week."

Just finished reading: Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, The Power of Kabbalah by Yehuda Berg, and The Drama of the Gifted Child by Alice Miller

All-time fave travel destination: Tokyo. "There are many places I haven't been, like Morocco, and I'm sure it's amazing."

How she's reducing her carbon footprint: "Taking public transportation, turning off the light when I'm leaving a room, switching the light bulbs in my house to green ones, biking and walking."
